Dame Athene Donald is Master of Churchill College Cambridge. She has been a Professor of Physics since 1998, a Fellow of the Royal Society since 1999, DBE since 2010 for services to Physics, and a recipient of many honours and awards both for her science and her services to the science community. She has been a member of many research and higher education policy bodies, including a council member of the European Research Council (ERC) from 2013-2018, during the Brexit referendum and its immediate aftermath.

Her views are regularly shared via a perceptive blog on a wide range of science and higher education issues, with particular interests including gender equality and equality of opportunity.
