Last week we lost our friend and committee member Cecilia Hall, who passed away after a short illness.

With Italian heritage and family living in the EU, Cecilia was a passionate supporter of the ideals of European unity. We first got to know her after the 2016 referendum when she became a regular volunteer at People’s Vote campaign stalls, rallies, and leafleting drives in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire. Cecilia was determined not to give up the European dream after the UK left the EU, and in 2021 she joined the Cambridge for Europe committee, where she helped organise and run many campaign events.

Cecilia was a passionate supporter of Ukraine’s right to freedom, democracy and a European future; not only was she a regular attendee at rallies in Cambridge in the aftermath of the full-scale Russian invasion, but she was instrumental in organising several fêtes and concerts to raise awareness and money for charities supporting the people of Ukraine.

We will remember Cecilia as a caring, ever dependable and determined advocate for our shared ideals. She was never short of an opinion or three, and we’ll miss our conversations in the Mill Mediterranean Coffee Spot or Maypole pub, setting our corner of the world to rights. We will endeavour to honour her in our future campaigning for the better world she believed in.

Most of all we’ll remember Cecilia as a true and big-hearted friend in troubled times. We extend our deepest sympathy to her husband Martin and her family on their loss.
