On Saturday 6th December 2025, five Cambridge for Europe volunteers took two mobile “Brexitometers” to the Mill Road Winter Fair. The Brexitometers asked “Who is the biggest threat to Europe? Putin or Trump”, “Should the UK rejoin the Single Market, including Freedom of Movement?”, Shoiuld the UK leave the ECHR?” and “Should the UK Government aim to rejoin the EU?”.

Two hours and several hundred conversations later the result was clear: Mill Road Winter Fair attendees reject the autocrats Putin and Trump, and want to strengthen the UK’s relationship with Europe and rejoin the EU.

We also handed out hundreds of European Movement UK Christmas cards for people to send to their family, friends or MPS, as well as leaflets.

In an article for East Anglia Bylines, Cambridge for Europe chair Paul Browne reflected on conversations at the Winter Fair, as the threat to democratic Europe from authoritarianism grows ever graver.

The UK cannot remain equidistant between the US and EU while the Trump administration remains on its current course …

For the sake of future generations, our choice must be to stand with Europe – with our allies in the EU and Ukraine – in defence of democracy, accountability, human rights and the rule of law. If we don’t, the free and open Europe we love may soon be but a memory.”
